Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. (ANW) rose 14 percent to $8. The Piraeus, Greece-based supplier of fuel for ships said it agreed to establish a strategic alliance with China Changjiang Bunker (Sinopec) Co.
Akorn Inc. (AKRX) gained 4.5 percent to $12.20. The pharmaceutical company began shipping a generic version of ViroPharma Inc.’s (VPHM) Vancocin, to treat clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea. ViroPharma sank 20 percent to $22.90.
American International Group Inc. (AIG) rose 2 percent to $32.66. The bailed-out insurer was raised to outperform from market perform at Wells Fargo & Co. which cited the company’s prospects of becoming independent of the U.S. government in the next year. The rating means the stock appears attractively valued and Wells believes its return will beat the market over the next 12 months.
