Alcoa Inc. (AA) lost 0.3 percent to $15.86. The largest U.S. aluminum producer said second-quarter profit excluding certain items was 32 cents a share, missing the 33-cent average estimate of 14.
Microchip Technology Inc. (MCHP) slipped 6 percent to $35.25. The maker of semiconductors said that for the quarter ended June 30 profit excluding certain items was no more than 55 cents a share, below the average estimate of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg, which was for earnings of 60 cents a share.
Clean Energy Fuel Corp. (CLNE) jumped 7.8 percent to $14.14. The builder and operator of natural-gas fueling stations is receiving a $150 million investment from Chesapeake Energy Corp. (CHK.
Radiant Systems Inc. (RADS) surged 31 percent to $28. The maker of software for retailers was acquired by NCR Corp. (NCR) for $28 a share. NCR rose 2.2 percent to $19.50.
