Edwards Lifesciences Corp. (EW) rose 5.4 percent to $82.49 and climbed to $83.81 earlier, the highest intraday price since July 21. Elderly patients getting the company’s Sapien heart valve implanted through the ribs as part of an expanded access program reaped more benefit than those observed in the initial trials, a study found.
Hologic Inc. (HOLX) rose 8.7 percent, the most in the Russell 1000 Index, to $20.87. The Bedford, Massachusetts-based maker of X-ray systems raised its 2012 profit forecast to as much as $1.38 a share, more than the average analyst estimate of $1.36 a share.
Mattel Inc. (MAT) gained 5.6 percent to $31.18 and advanced to $31.40 earlier, the highest intraday price since December 1998. The maker of Barbie dolls reported fourth-quarter profit of $1.07 a share, excluding some items, beating the $1 average analyst estimate.
Paccar Inc. (PCAR) climbed 4.2 percent to $46.02 after jumping to $46.63, the highest intraday price since July 25. The truckmaker reported fourth-quarter earnings of 91 cents a share, exceeding the 79-cent average estimate by analysts.
Parexel International Corp. (PRXL) surged 14 percent to $23.30 and rallied 17 percent earlier, the most intraday since January 2010. The tester of experimental medicines for drugmakers forecast third-quarter earnings of as much as 32 cents a share excluding some items, above the average analyst estimate of 30 cents a share, according to a Bloomberg survey.
