Allegheny Technologies Inc. (ATI) advanced 4.7 percent to $49.89, after climbing 5.7 percent, the most intraday since Oct. 28. The specialty-metals producer was rated a new “buy” at Auriga USA LLC.
AMC Networks Inc. (AMCX ) climbed 7.6 percent, the biggest gain in the Russell 1000 Index, to $37.02. The cable- television channel owner was boosted to “hold” from “sell” by Benjamin Mogil, an analyst at Stifel Nicolaus & Co.
Caterpillar Inc. (CAT) gained 4 percent to $95.86 and climbed 4.1 percent earlier, the most intraday since Oct. 27. The world’s largest maker of construction and mining equipment offered as much as HK$6.89 billion ($885 million) to buy ERA Mining Machinery Ltd. to expand sales in China.
