Acura Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ACUR) rallied 38 percent to $5.35 after soaring as much as 76 percent, the most intraday since December 1988. The Palatine, Illinois-based company and Pfizer Inc. (PFE) won U.S. approval for the first short- acting painkiller that discourages users from snorting or injecting it for a quick high.
Agrium Inc. (AGU) rose 3.3 percent to $82.38 after climbing as much as 4.1 percent, the most intraday since June 9. The fertilizer producer raised its earnings per share forecast for the second quarter to between $4.10 and $4.40 from $3.38 to $3.88.
Carpenter Technology Corp. (CRS) rose 7.7 percent to $51.56 for the biggest increase in the Russell 1000 Index. The specialty-metals producer said it agreed to acquire Latrobe for about $558 million in a deal that it expects to add immediately to earnings.
