Equity markets higher despite U.S. shutdown

Shutdown, shutdown. Global equity markets remain mostly higher despite the U.S. Congress failing to reach a deal to avert a partial closure of the government.
"The U.S. shutdown is a central point for the markets, but as long as the hope for just a temporary shutdown exists, it will not be a strong burden for equities," says UniCredit's Christian Stocker.
Markets might be more concerned about what the implications are for a deal on the debt ceiling, but the deadline for that is a distant 2 1/2 weeks away.

Japan +0.2%, India +0.6%. China, Hong Kong closed.

 EU Stoxx 50 +0.7%, London -0.1%, Paris +0.7%, Frankfurt +0.7%, Madrid +0.65%, Milan +0.85%.

 U.S. stock futures: Dow +0.4%. S&P +0.5%. Nasdaq +0.5%
