Europe market Update price: END-OF-DAY REPORT: The headline index was little changed by the close of business, with weakness in the banking sector helping to offset a firm rally from the heavyweight mining companies.

At the close of business, the FTSE100 was up just 3.63 points at 6,308.26 with the FTSE250 ahead 144.57 points at 13,822.44.

NEW YORK

US stocks lost ground in late morning trade as disappointing consumer confidence and industrial output data created nervousness among investors.

Approaching the close in London, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 58 points at 15,119, the S&P500 fell 4 points to 1,633 and the Nasdaq Composite dipped 13 points at 3,432.
