Suntech Power (STP) issues downside guidance for Q2 revenues, foreseeing $471M vs. $473M consensus estimate, and expects Q3 shipments of PV products flat Q/Q. STP now expects 2012 annual PV shipments of 1.8-2.0 GW vs. previous guidance of 2.1-2.5 GW.
First Solar, Inc. (FSLR): The U.S. solar manufacturer First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) recently stopped deliveries to the world's largest photovoltaic power plant which is built in Arizona, because construction is ahead of schedule and the company must slow down to meet contractual milestones. Fred Pech, the construction manager of the power plant, said that First Solar won't ship any modules until January, 2013 to the Agua Caliente project and won't install panels currently sitting on the ground at the site. First Solar delivered panels to the project "because it was more profitable," and the company's 2012 earnings will probably not be affected due to the shutdown, said Aaron Chew, an analyst at Maxim Group LLC in New York. The solar farm is expected to complete at the end of 2013 and is 85 percent built. At the close of the trading day, First Solar shares dropped US$4.53 (equivalent to -18.71%) to US$19.67 on hefty volume of 25.08 million shares, well above its usual volume of 7.10 million shares. Observing comprehensive analysis of First Solar could help investors avoid big lost in investment.
