Agilent Technologies Inc. (A) rose 5.6 percent to $41.08 after climbing 6.7 percent earlier, the most intraday since Nov. 30. The maker of scientific-testing equipment reported earnings in the second quarter were 78 cents a share, topping the average analyst estimate by 5 cents.
Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) gained 3.2 percent to $230.04 and increased 3.5 percent earlier, the most intraday since April 27. The world’s largest Internet retailer was raised to outperform from neutral at Credit Suisse Group AG, which cited the potential for wider margins. The rating means that the stock’s total return is expected to outperform the relevant benchmark by at least 10 percent over the next 12 months.
