After Hours News:
Apollo Group (APOL): FQ1 EPS of $1.28 beats by $0.11. Revenue of $1.17B (-11% Y/Y) in-line. Shares +2.1% AH

Jazz Pharmaceuticals (JAZZ) gains 3.1% AH after guiding for 2012 revenue of $465M-$490M and EPS of $4-$4.15, above a consensus of $462.8M and $3.40. The guidance takes into account Jazz's planned merger with Azur Pharma, which the companies hope to close on Jan. 16 - it's possible not all analyst forecasts took the deal into account.

ViroPharma (VPHM) says it expects 2012 sales to be above Street estimates, now expecting net product sales of $600M - $660M. The analyst consensus is for total revenue of $593M. Shares +4.8% AH

RF Micro's (RFMD) warning has led to an AH selloff in rival mobile power amplifier vendors. TQNT -3.6%. SWKS -3.9%. In addition, Chinese wireless chipmaker SPRD is down 2.1%, and RF Micro customer/2G phone giant NOK is down 0.7%. It was reported earlier today that HTC is slashing its chip orders. In addition, Credit Suisse warned of slowing mobile phone shipment growth.

Synta Pharmaceuticals (SNTA) announces a secondary offering for an undisclosed amount of shares. Jefferies is acting as sole book-running manager. Shares -11.5% AH.

Family Dollar (FDO) reports an in-line FQ1, but the stock is weak in after hours trading as sales came in just short of estimates, largely due to the impact of higher sales of lower-margin consumables. The company reaffirms earnings guidance for FY12. Shares -3.4% AH.
