Best Metals & Minerals Stock to buy 2012: Gold miners expect the price of the precious metal to continue rising in 2012 and are updating their mining plans accordingly, Price water house Coopers said.In its annual Gold Price Report, PwC said that 80% of mining companies surveyed expect the price of gold to continue to increase this year, with the majority of respondents expecting gold to peak at $2,000 a troy ounce in 2012.

The survey was based on responses from 40 gold companies representing 26.5 million ounces of gold mined in 2011, and 37.75 million ounces to be mined in 2012.

For 2012 the average price that will be used by executives in their mine planning is $1,420/oz, compared with $1,130/oz in 2010. The price that executives plan to apply to their 2011 reserves varies from $850/oz to $1,650/oz, with 32% applying a price of $1,200/oz.Gold companies are seeking to attract more investors by boosting their dividends and plowing cash into acquisitions.

To say 2012 has been unkind to coal stocks, is to put things mildly. As measured by the Market Vectors Coal ETF (NYSE: KOL ), the largest of the two ETFs devoted to coal stocks, has plunged 30% year-to-date. Part of the that slack performance can be tied to concerns that the global economy is slowing, which in turns spells bad news for a high-beta sector like coal.

Molycorp Inc. (MCP)- Molycorp (MCP) was up week last week.New support located at $23 and resistance area is $30. Share of  Molcorp (MCP) trade under $30 November which is good for 1/2 long my position for 2012, I am long for 2nd  half go long for low $23s. I believe that stock could see $50 stock next 12 months.This is my one of the Top Pick for 2012.
 
Walter Energy, Inc. (NYSE:WLT) is the 7th most profitable stock in this segment of the market. Its net profit margin was 15.80% for the last 12 months. Its operating profit margin was 24.94% for the same period. Resistance area is $70 and support level at $60.

Peabody Energy Corporation (NYSE:BTU) is the 9th most profitable stock in this segment of the market. Its net profit margin was 12.77% for the last 12 months. Its operating profit margin was 18.97% for the same period.Resistance area is $37 and support level at $31.

Alpha Natural Resources (NYSE: ANR): Alpha Natural Resources has one of the ugliest charts in the coal sector. That's a fact.Problems with the Massey Energy acquisition have plagued ANR, but the company is trying to right that ship and the deal has made ANR the largest U.S. maker of metallurgical coal. That's the coal grade prized by Asian steelmakers. At a price/book ratio of just 0.56 with a low price tag, ANR is kind of like a no-expiration call option on a coal sector rebound.Resistance area is $25 and support level at $15.

BHP Billiton Ltd (BHP): BHP Billiton Limited, involves in the mining and production of nickel products, manganese ore, and manganese metal and alloys, as well as in the mining of iron ore, metallurgical coal, and thermal coal. Resistance area is $80 and support level at $67.

Rio Tinto plc (RIO): Rio Tinto is of course one of the world’s largest mining companies and one of the largest FTSE 100 companies. It mines a large variety of metals and minerals, including diamonds, gold, silver, and iron ore. Share of Rio Tinto trading $45-$55 last few months.Resistance area is $65 and support level at $55.

Arch Coal's (ACI):  Lay ANR's chart over Arch's and you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference. It's like choosing between awful and terrible. Trading at less than 5.5 earnings, Arch had a a gross margin of 25.12% and an operating margin of 11.58%. Resistance area is $17 and support level at $13.

Europe Mid Day Report - 2/20/21

MIDDAY REPORT: Headline shares were firmly higher at midday, amid confidence that a deal for Greece will be agreed by Eurozone finance ministers, with miners climbing on hopes of growth in demand in China.

At midday, the FTSE100 was up 47.67 points at 5,952.74 with the FTSE250 ahead 113 points at 11,425.2 and the FTSE Smallcaps 24.04 points better at 3,087.89.

LONDON MARKETS

Encouraging news from China and growing confidence that Eurozone finance ministers will agree a deal for Greece when they meeting Brussels today set a positive mood in London.

Base metals prices rose as China announced policy easing measures and WTI crude jumped above $105 a barrel as Iran cut supplies.

A healthy rise in copper prices gave Antofagasta a boost of 40p at 1,344p, while BHP Billiton rose 63p at 2,086p and Rio Tinto improved 111.5p at 3,733.5p. Kazakhmys topped the midday leaderboard, ahead 36.5p at 1,160.5p.

Oil producers gained on the jump in crude prices, with BP additionally lifted by hopes of a spill settlement this week. BP gained 11.08p at 500.03p, while Shell added 3p at 2,330p and Tullow Oil rose 29.5p at 1,595.5p.

Financial issues improved on hopes of a Greek deal, with banks gaining ahead of numbers from the two part-nationalised units later this week. Lloyds gained 1.035p at 36.49p, Royal Bank of Scotland added 0.87p at 28.47p and Barclays advanced 3.05p at 251.4p.

Insurers following the trend, with Aviva the best of them, up 9.7p at 379.7p. Elsewhere, Prudential rose 5.75p at 726.75p and Legal & General gained 1.8p at 123.5p.

The builders' merchants extended their recent good run, with Wolseley gaining 57.5p at 2,464.5p and CRH ahead 28.5p at 1,371.5p.

News from the British Retail Consortium of improved retail footfall last quarter received muted applause from the retailers. Tesco was 2.53p higher at 320.43p, Marks & Spencer added 5.5p at 358.1p and Sainsbury gained 3.4p at 304.9p, but Morrisons eased 0.55p at 296.75p.

Irish pharmaceutical group Shire slipped 22.5p at 2,255p as investors pocketed some gains after last week's strong performance.

Satellite operator Inmarsat slid 5.1p at 477.5p after announcing that a payment due from US wireless network operator LightSquared under the terms of the Cooperation Agreement between the two companies has not been received.

Utilities were on offer, their defensive qualities redundant in the climbing market. United Utilities dipped 6.75p at 601.75p, National Grid lost 3.75p at 641.25p and Severn Trent was the worst blue chip performer of the day, down 23p at 1,528p.
