Below is a list of some of the story stocks to watch for August 29, 2011 

Jones Group Inc. (JNY) jumped 5.7 percent to $11.15. The maker of Nine West shoes may rise to $20 if the U.S. stays out of another recession and the company’s profitability improves, Barron’s said.

Pfizer Inc. (PFE) added 2.6 percent to $18.69. The world’s largest drugmaker won U.S. approval to sell a drug to treat lung cancer. The treatment, crizotinib, is the leading candidate among more than 20 tumor-fighting medicines the company is developing to help replace sales expected to be lost to generic drugs.

Venoco Inc. (VQ) surged 32 percent to $11.89. The oil and gas exploration company got an offer from Chief Executive Officer Timothy M. Marquez, who owns 50.3 percent, to buy the remaining outstanding stock at $12.50 a share.
