Forest Laboratories Inc. (FRX) rose 1.9 percent to $35.14. The New York-based drugmaker entered an agreement with Morgan Stanley to buy back $350 million in shares in an accelerated program.
Home Depot Inc. (HD) increased 5.1 percent to $33.06. The largest U.S. home improvement retailer raised its full-year profit forecast after second-quarter adjusted profit exceeded analysts’ estimates by 4.4 percent, spurred by increased traffic and spending by customers.
Pharmaceutical Product Development Inc. (PPDI) gained 4.4 percent to $32.89. Carlyle Group is in exclusive talks to buy the clinical research company, said five people with knowledge of the discussions.
Renaissance Learning Inc. (RLRN) jumped 24 percent to $14.64. The maker of electronic-learning products and software will be bought by Permira Funds for $14.85 a share in cash.
