China's manufacturing activity contracted in September for the 11th straight month, though overall conditions showed a slight improvement from levels in August, according to preliminary reading of HSBC's monthly survey. HSBC's "flash" Purchasing Mangers' Index printed at 47.8 on a 100-point scale, up slightly from its final reading of 47.6 the previous month, but still below July's level. Chinese markets were little changed in the wake of the data release, with the Shanghai Composite Index trading 1% lower, while the Shenzhen Composite Index was down 1.4%
